What are the Microsoft SQL Database requirements for LinkFixer Advanced?

LinkFixer Advanced supports Microsoft SQL Server and requires specific database configurations to ensure optimal performance and stability.

Database Setup

  1. Create a dedicated SQL database specifically for LinkFixer Advanced
  2. LinkFixer Advanced will automatically create the required database schema upon first connection

Database Growth Configuration

By default, SQL Server grows databases dynamically (“organically”). However, during large scan operations, this can lead to excessive resource usage.

Recommendations:
  1. Pre-allocate at least 1 GB of database space
  2. Log file size: ≥500 MB
  3. Configure database growth in 500 MB increments

Server Resource Requirements

For optimal performance:
  1. CPU: 8 cores minimum (16 cores recommended for ≥5 TB datasets)
  2. Memory: 16 GB minimum (32 GB recommended for ≥10 TB datasets)
Memory Management Tip:
  1. Limit SQL Server instance memory to 8–16 GB, depending on system capacity
  2. Limit SQL Server memory usage to 50% of total system RAM
    1. Warning:
Setting memory too high can cause resource contention
Setting it too low may prevent SQL Server from starting or degrade performance

Permissions and Access

  1. LinkFixer Advanced requires a dedicated database
  2. The application (or user running it) must have db_owner permissions

Schema Requirements

  1. LinkFixer Advanced is not designed to work within a shared database schema
  2. It uses the default schema (dbo)
  3. It does not support named or custom schemas within a shared database
There should be no conflicts with other databases, as LinkFixer Advanced operates within its own dedicated schema.
