Should I Run LinkFixer Advanced Using “Run as Administrator”?

There can be an important difference between running a program using an account with administrative privileges and launching a program using “Run as administrator.”

We recommend running LinkFixer Advanced while logged in with a user account that already has administrative privileges.

LinkFixer Advanced inherits the permissions of the currently logged-in user. If you log in using an administrator account, LinkFixer Advanced will automatically have the same permissions you have when accessing network locations, drives, folders, and files.

Why “Run as Administrator” May Cause Issues

In some situations, using “Run as administrator” can create access problems.

For example:
  1. A user logs into Windows using their normal administrator account.
  1. The user maps network drives or network locations while logged in.
  1. The user then launches LinkFixer Advanced using “Run as administrator.”
When this happens, Windows may treat the “Run as administrator” session as a separate security context. As a result, LinkFixer Advanced may not be able to access the mapped drives or network locations created by the original user session.

This can cause LinkFixer Advanced to lose access to network drives, folders, or files that appear to be available to the user.

Best Practice

To avoid these issues:
  1. Log into the machine using a user account with administrative privileges.
  1. Map any required network drives or network locations using this account.
  1. Launch and run LinkFixer Advanced normally using the same account.
  1. If these steps are followed, it is generally not necessary to use “Run as administrator.”
