To support modern authentication methods in SharePoint Online, LinkFixer Advanced includes an Office 365 authentication option for SharePoint Online network locations. This option can be selected from the authentication drop-down menu.

Granting Access

When selecting Office 365 authentication, a SharePoint Online global administrator must grant consent for LinkFixer Advanced to access SharePoint data.

To grant access:
1. Click the Admin consent button.
2. Sign in using Office 365 administrator credentials.

After signing in, a permissions dialog will appear outlining the access required by LinkFixer Advanced.

Required Permissions

LinkFixer Advanced requires the following permissions:

Full control of all site collections

Enables access to all SharePoint Online site collection data.

Sign in and read user profile

Allows users to authenticate with Office 365 credentials and enables LinkFixer Advanced to read basic user and organizational profile information.

If admin consent is attempted by a user without global administrator privileges, the request will fail. A qualified administrator must approve access by selecting Accept. Once approved, you will be returned to the Configure SharePoint dialog.

Signing In

1. Click the Sign in button.
2. Authenticate using your Office 365 credentials.

Upon successful authentication:
  1. An access token is generated.
  1. This token allows LinkFixer Advanced to securely access SharePoint Online data without storing or using your password.
  1. Authentication occurs directly with Microsoft servers.
After signing in, you will return to the Configure SharePoint dialog, where your username and tenant ID are displayed.

Technical Note

The access token is securely stored in an encrypted file within the LinkFixer Advanced ProgramData directory.
(for example: C:\ProgramData\LinkTek\LinkFixer Advanced\)

This token enables continued access without repeated sign-ins, as long as it remains valid.

Signing Out

Click the Sign out button to:
  1. Remove the stored access token
  1. Prevent LinkFixer Advanced from accessing SharePoint Online data

Additional Information

  1. By default, users remain signed in to Office 365 within LinkFixer Advanced.
  1. Each time the application starts, the access token is validated.
  1. If the token has expired, you will be prompted to sign in again.
This authentication process ensures secure and efficient access to SharePoint Online while maintaining compliance with modern security standards.
