How to Add Source Folders to Exclude from the Cure Scope

This article explains how to add Source Folders to exclude from the Cure scope in LinkFixer Advanced version 7.0.1.580 or later.

What Are Source Folders?

Source folders are the locations where your files were stored when they were originally inoculated.

Defining source folders tells Cure where your inoculated links should no longer point. This helps ensure that links are updated to reference their new post-migration locations instead of the original ones.

When Source Folders Are Not Needed

If you migrated files by moving them (not copying them), the original locations typically no longer exist. In this case, you do not need to specify source folders, since Cure will not find files in those locations.

If you copied your inoculated files instead of moving them, the original files will still exist in the source location. In this situation, it is recommended to define your source folders before running Cure so LinkFixer Advanced does not resolve links back to the original files.

How Cure Uses Source Folders

When source folders are defined, Cure will:
  1. Avoid pointing links to files located in source folders
  2. Fix links that point to files in source folders, even if those links are currently working
Normally, Cure ignores links that already work. However, if a working link points to a file located in a source folder, Cure will still correct it.

This behavior improves performance by avoiding unnecessary processing of working links that do not require correction.

Note: Running Cure without defining source folders is not dangerous. However, specifying them helps Cure better understand your intended migration outcome.

Alternative Approach

Another way to achieve the same result is to ensure that links to pre-migration files no longer work before running Cure.
While there are multiple ways to accomplish this, defining source folders is usually the faster and simpler method.

Technical Detail

During Cure Phase 1 (Scan), links that point to files located in a source folder will be reported with result code 5307, regardless of whether the link is currently working or broken.

User Interface Path

To access the Source Folders settings:

Main Menu (☰) → Settings → Cure → Source Folders

Preparing Source Folders for Cure

Before running Cure, follow these steps:

  1. Identify the source folder locations where your inoculated files originally resided.
  2. Navigate to Settings → Cure → Source Folders.
  3. Click Add and enter each source folder location.

Importing Source Folders from a File

You can also import a list of source folders from a text file:
  1. Create a .txt file containing each source folder path on a separate line.
  2. In Source Folders, click Import.
  3. Select the saved text file.

Exporting Source Folders from Inoculate Settings

If you are unsure of the source folder locations, you can export them from the Inoculate folder selection:
  1. Go to Main Menu → Inoculate → Select Folders.
  2. Click Export… to save the folder list to a .txt file.
  3. Import this file under Settings → Cure → Source Folders using the Import option.

Running Cure After Configuration

Once your source folders have been added, you can run Cure.

Cure will then:
  1. Process links in files located within the Cure Select Folders scope
  2. Update links that reference files outside the Cure scope
  3. Exclude any files located in the defined source folders
