The Move/Rename process in LinkFixer Advanced lets you rename or move files (such as images) to a new server, directory, or folder without breaking any links in parent files that point them.
  1. Trial Note: In the trial version, the Move/Rename function processes up to 500 links per day and 5,000 links total during the 21-day trial.
  2. Tip: The Move/Rename command works on parent files, links, and child files even if they haven't been inoculated as long as the links are healthy. Use Inoculate only before using Cure.

Step-By-Step Guide

We'll move and rename the image file LinkFixer Advanced.bmp that is linked inside the Excel2010 Question File.xlsx.

  1.  Open LinkFixer Advanced folder from your desktop.

  2. Select Sample files folder and open Excel Sample Files folder.

  3. Navigate to the XLSX 2010 Folder and open the EXCEL2010 Questions File.xlsx.
You may also check the image file "LinkFixer Advanced.bmp" inside the Images folder.

  4. You can confirm that it contains a link to the LinkFixer Advanced logo image file "LinkFixer Advanced.bmp".

  5. Close the excel workbook and open LinkFixer Advanced from your desktop.
  6. Click on Move/Rename.

  7. Locate and tick the XLSX 2010 folder from the folder tree. Hit the "Next Step:Select Files" button to proceed located at the upper right screen.

Note: If other folders are selected, click "Uncheck All" button located at the upper left screen.

  8. On the Select Files screen, choose Process all files in selected folders.
  9. On the Select Links screen, choose Process all links in selected folders.
  10. On the create rules screen, click the "Add Rule" button.
  11. Click the Component drop down menu and select Folder.

  12. Enter "Images\" in the "From:" field to indicate the current folder name, then type "MovedImages\" in the "To:" field to set the new folder name.
  13. Click "OK" to save the rule. This creates a rule that will allow us to create a new folder named " MovedImages" and move its files to the new folder.
  14. Click the "Add Rule"
  15. Click the Component drop down menu and select Basename.
  16. Enter "LinkFixer Advanced" in the "From:" filed to indicate the current base name, then type "LinkFixer" in the "To:" to indicate set the new base name.
  17. Click "OK" to save the rule.
  18. We now have two rules: one creates a new folder and moves the files into it, and the other renames the files. Click "Next Step: Preview" to proceed.

  19. The “Preview Files to be Moved/Renamed” screen will appear, showing the current files and links in the “Before” row and the updated versions in the “After” row. Click on "Next Step: Process Files" to proceed.

  20. The “Review Selection” screen will appear, allowing you to confirm and adjust your settings before proceeding. Click "Run Move/Rename" to proceed.

A reminder message about SQL Database performance may appear. By default, LinkFixer Advanced uses its built‑in SQLite database. Since this is only a sample file, you can simply click "Yes" to continue.

If prompted about backups, select whether to create automatic backups (Recommended for production files). Select "Do not make automatic backups" since this is only for a sample file.

  21. When processing is complete, the LinkFixer Advanced “Move/Rename Process Dashboard” window will appear, confirming that the Move/Rename process has been successfully applied to all selected files. You may also view the summary report by clicking "Open Report".

  22. Return to the "Excel Sample Files" and confirm if the logo still appears, proving the link remain intact.

You’ll also notice that the “MovedImages” folder is located inside the “XLSX 2010” directory.

Open the “MovedImages” folder to confirm that the file has been successfully renamed to “LinkFixer.bmp”.

  23. Congratulations, you have now completed the Move/Rename process.
