Overview

Starting with version 5.5.8, LinkFixer Advanced supports password-protected Microsoft Excel and Word files only, including:
  1. Excel: .xls, .xlsx
  2. Word: .doc, .docx
The application allows you to provide a secure list of passwords, which it uses to open protected files, process links, and then close the files automatically.

Creating a Password File

1. Open Microsoft Excel.
2. Enter all known passwords in Column A of a worksheet.
3. You may use multiple worksheets if needed.
4. Save the workbook as an .xlsx file.

Optional (Recommended):
Protect the password file:
  1. Go to File → Info → Protect Workbook → Encrypt with Password
  2. Set a password to restrict access to authorized users only

Loading the Password File in LinkFixer Advanced

1. Click the Main Menu (☰) in the top-left corner of the application.
2. Navigate to Settings.
3. Select the Files section.
4. Under Password-Protected Files:
Check “Enter the name of a file containing a list of your passwords.”
5. Click Browse and select your password file.
6. If the file is password-protected:
Enter the password when prompted and press Enter
7. Choose which worksheet to load:
      Select a specific sheet, or
Choose “All” to load passwords from all sheets
Confirm that the number of unique passwords is displayed at the bottom of the page.

Result

Once configured, LinkFixer Advanced will:
  1. Use the password list to open protected files
  2. Perform necessary link updates
  3. Close the files securely after processing
All subsequent processes will automatically use the loaded password file.

Best Practices

  1. Keep your password file secure and limit access to authorized users only
  2. Regularly update the file with new or changed passwords
  3. Use workbook encryption for added protection
