When setting up a rename rule in LinkFixer Advanced, you can choose which part of a file path or URL to modify. By default, the component is Full Filespec (the entire path or URL). Below are the available components explained with examples.
Basename
The main part of a file name, without disk, folder or extension.
Examples:
C:\work\myfile.xls → myfile
http://www.mysite.com/index.htm → index
Note: The preceding slash or backslash is not part of the basename.
Domain
The part of a URL after the resource type but before the path/file.
Examples:
//www.xyz.com/
//www.microsoft.com/
Includes the preceding slashes and trailing slash.
Tip: Resource type + Domain = Host
Drive
Indicates the hard drive letter plus colon.
Examples:
C: or N:
For UNC paths (e.g., \\server\share\folder\file.xls), there is no "drive"
\\server = node
\share\folder\= folder
Extension
The part of the filename after the basename, including the period.
Examples:
myfile.xls = .xls
my.file.xls = can be recognized as .xls or file.xls (configurable in Application Options Files).
Filename
Combination of basename + extension.
Example:
myfile.xls
Folder
The folder or subfolder path, including leading and trailing slashes.
Examples:
\countries\canada\
/usr/samples/new/
Full Filespec
The entire file specification.
Examples:
C:\work\dave.xls
http://www.xyz.com/abc.htm
\\SERVER\SERVER-N\Folder1\newfile.doc
Network Share
The shared resource portion of a UNC path
Example:
\\SERVER\SERVER-N
URI Scheme
The part of a URL before the domain name.
Example:
http://
Additional Options
Depending on the Rename Method and Component to Modify, extra settings may appear.
For example, with Special Substitution, you can specify how to handle missing characters.
