How are file and folder permissions and attributes handled by the Move/Rename process?
Modified on: Wed, 11 Mar, 2026 at 1:49 PM
The Move/Rename process moves or renames selected files from the source location to a new target locaiton. This happens in two steps:
- LinkFixer Advanced moves the files to the target location.
- It then updates the links in the parent files, so they point to the new location of the child files.
Default Behavior
When files are moved or copied to the target location, LinkFixer Advanced creates new folders and files that inherit the permissions and attributes of the target location.
Maintaining Source Permissions and Attributes
You can configure LinkFixer Advanced to:
Remember file permissions and attributes from the source location and apply them to the new files in the target location.
Remember folder permissions and attributes from the source location and apply them to new folders in the target location.
Note: Maintaining folder permissions and attributes requires the optional Migration Feature.
Migration Feature Options
When the Migration Features are enabled:
- Two additional Expert Options for maintaining folder permissions appear on the Perform Move/Rename screen.
- These options are located below the settings for maintaining file permissions and attributes.
