Can LinkFixer Advanced Process Document Libraries with “Require Check-Out” Enabled?

SharePoint document libraries can be configured to require users to check out files before accessing or editing them. When working with libraries that have this setting enabled, it is important to understand how SharePoint handles newly added or migrated files.

When files are added to a SharePoint library—such as through drag-and-drop using Windows Explorer or by using file transfer tools like RoboCopy—SharePoint automatically marks those files as checked out to the user who performed the upload.

Files in a checked-out state are not accessible to other users or external tools. As a result, LinkFixer Advanced cannot process these files while they remain checked out. All files must be checked in before they can be accessed or modified.

Required Steps Before Processing Files

Before using LinkFixer Advanced on a document library that requires check-out, you must complete one of the following steps:

1. Temporarily disable the “Require Check-Out” setting
  1. Turn off the setting before uploading files.
  2. Upload the files.
  3. Re-enable the setting after the upload is complete.
2. Check in all uploaded files
After adding files to the library, manually check them in so they become accessible.

Recommendation: The first option—temporarily disabling the setting—is generally simpler and more efficient.
